Rules of Attraction: Love

What's the difference between love and attraction? Is attraction a lesser form of love? Is it a certain type of love? Has it got nothing to do with love? Each of these questions then breeds further questions: can a relationship be sustained with attraction alone? What are the limits of attraction? What are the limits of love?

Me personally, I don't believe in love per se. I don't believe that love is eternal. I don't believe that there is one person out there who everyone is destined to find. I don't believe in true love, that is, I don't believe love is felt exactly the same by all people, rather it is a word assigned to a feeling which most people can generally relate to.

Linguistically, love is an annoying word. I can say I love playing guitar and there are no implications, but as soon as I say I love someone then all sorts of things are expected to follow. The all too common "if you really loved me, then..." is a good example. Love, in the context of human relationships, is this ideal that we're supposed to work towards, but in any other context, it's just a word used to describe a feeling. And that's how I think it should stay in all contexts - a word used to describe a feeling, nothing else. There is no ideal of love. There is no ideal of anything.

Song of the Week IV

Sit on my Knee by Jimmy Barnes and Dallas Crane. To be honest, despite being a big Barnsey fan, when I heard he had a new song out I didn't take much notice. I didn't think he'd be up to releasing any good new material. But I love the song now, sounds awesome cranked up loud. SIT ON MY KNEE! AND FALL IN LOVE WITH ME!
